Bruisers in the Motzstraßenfest and the Berlin Sevens tournament

July 17th, 2017|Comments Off on Bruisers in the Motzstraßenfest and the Berlin Sevens tournament

What a busy weekend this was for the Bruisers!! While half our guys were up at RK03 battling away in the Berlin Sevens tournament, the rest of us were busy working the crowds at Motzstraßenfest – Europe’s largest gay and lesbian street festival.

Up at the Station Buschalle, our boys did us proud, scoring the first try of the tournament and putting in some sterling work against some very stiff opposition. Final placing 14th overall 🙂

RK 03 Berlin vs Bruisers 38:5
USV Potsdam vs Bruisers 47:0
Bruisers vs SC Siemensstadt 34:10
Match for place 13
Bruisers vs RK 03 Piraten 19:33

Try scorers:
Juan 5
Greg 2
Tom 2
Freddie 1

Many thanks to Berlin Grizzlies Rugby Club, Berlin Irish RFC e.V., Berliner SV 1892 Rugby, Rugby-Potsdam and Sport Club Siemensstadt Rugby for lending us players when needed!

Meanwhile down at the street fair we we were wooing the crowds – young and old, with our impromptu street rugby, pom-pom juggling and winning smiles.

We had a fantastic response and signed up over 90 people for our upcoming ‘Intro to Rugby’ day on Aug 12th – including 25+ women for a potential Bruisers Women team! Looks like next season will be our best yet

The Berlin Bruisers e.V. – the first gay and inclusive rugby team in Germany – are turning 5 year old! From humble beginnings on the fields of Tiergarten to contenders the German Regionaliga and in major international rugby tournaments, the team has grown tremendously and the boys are getting stronger and stronger! However, what would be a rugby club without its fans and supporters? And without the fun? That‘s why they are inviting you to their 5th Birthday Bash to their fourth installment of a wild and crazy Variety night!.

It will be an evening of spectacular performance, ranging from drag to magic, live music, juggling and comedy. An evening filled with international and local artists, and most importantly, the sexy Berlin Bruisers – the most colorful German rugby team – who for this occasion will showcase their artistic side.

This wild group is disciplined by the best fitness coach of Scotland, Gieza Poke. At her side, Judy LaDivina, one of Berlin‘s most beautiful Drag Queens, will moderate this hot evening.

What would be a birthday celebration without music? For this we have the most popular queer hip-hop singer in the world as a guest: Rica Shay, fresh from Los Angeles. Laughter is the best medicine and you will be getting a large dose of it from David Hailey, an hilarious new Berlin’s comedian. The strange couple Fannie Headäk and Mandie Minx will take you on a magical and deranged musical journey into the 50s. Joy and Clarence Pickles, star couple from the good times of the BBC, will hit you with a hilarious magic show! Luke Burrage is the best combat juggler in the world, and he will show us his talents with balls and clubs.
The Berlin Bruisers will be also on the stage. The “Bruisers Circus” will show you that the guys are not only good players but also musicians, jugglers, comedians, dancers and magicians! And then, off come the clothes, a timeless tradition: the Bruisers Striptease! Naked, sweating skin is always a sight of beauty! Pros also have a good place on stage: Viva Lamore, Neo-Burlesque dancer from New York, and Alisa Saric, a passionate pole dancer from Berlin, are simply more delicious than a birthday cake. Go ahead, take a bite!

The revenues of the evening will help the Bruisers to continue pursuing their stated goal:
To clearly tell and show the world that it doesn‘t matter the color of your skin, what your sexual orientation, gender identity or HIV status is, as long as you work to be stronger together, on the field and in life. With your donations, the Bruisers will be able to participate in international Gay Rugby tournaments, as well as successfully participate in many LGBT* events, and even in workshops against bullying in Berlin schools.

Was wäre eine Geburtstagsfeier ohne Musik?

The Bruisers get a touch of the Blarney !

March 3rd, 2017|Comments Off on The Bruisers get a touch of the Blarney !

So ….. the second half of the season is underway …

The Regional League is now in full swing and we are delighted to say that we have been joined by some of the ‘Boys in Green’ from the Berlin Irish team who are on ‘loan’ to us until the end of the season. Not only do we expect to see an upswing in the talent on display … but also sadly an upswing in the hangovers we will have to suffer after Guinness-filled ‘after-match’ parties!

The other great news is the expansion of the Berlin Bruisers into two teams. There is the Bruiser League Team for those that want to commit to some serious competitive rugby …. and there is now also the Bruiser ‘Gentlemen’s XV’, for those who still want to play and train, but with a more relaxed ‘end-game’ (and possibly less injury? !!).

Details of both teams and their training times and locations can be found on the Training page
